Romestaing is a commune in South-West France, located in the Lot-et-Garonne department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
Romestaing derives from the Latin name ROMANA-STATIO, which served as the name of the commune.
During the second half of the twelfth century, under the reign of Henry of England, the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem established a commandery in Romestaing.
After King Philippe Le Bel abolished the Order of the Knights Templar, the property and the power of low and high justice were given to the Hospitallers, who were free to dispose of it until the French Revolution.
