A vibrant, full-color wall mural

To brighten up the long party wall lining the place de la salle des fêtes, Argenton’s elected representatives commissioned a fresco from Agen painter Olivier Lambert. The muralist, who paints freehand with an aerosol can, drew his inspiration from the rural and cultural life of the Coteaux et Landes de Gascogne commune. It features strong symbols of Argenton, such as farming, childhood, music and, of course, pétanque, a sport dear to the heart of its mayor, Raymond Girardi. Pupils from the local elementary school helped decorate the bus shelter.

A centenarian on the commune

On December 12, 2024, Yvonne Barrère, doyenne of the Argenton commune, celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family, villagers and town councillors, over a glass of champagne and a magnificent pièce montée.
Born on December 12, 1924 in Tonneins into a family of 7 children, Yvonne grew up with her family in Aiguillon before making her life and career as a hairdresser in Agen.
She has been living in Argenton for a number of years with her daughter Colette, who recalled how Yvonne “always listened and made herself available to others, even if it was at her own expense”.
